The Van Kaer and Wu labs at Vanderbilt University Medical Center are recruiting a post-doctoral scholar for an NIH-funded project to study the contribution of autophagy and related cellular processes to the development and function of various cells of the immune system.
The overall goal of our research program is to explore the interactions between the immune and metabolic systems, in an emerging field called immunometabolism. In our studies, we employ a variety of genetically engineered mice with selective defects of autophagy-related factors in specific cell types of the immune or metabolic systems. We also employ a variety of mouse models of human disease, including models of multiple sclerosis, cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, obesity-associated type 2 diabetes, and myocardial infarction. Candidates should have a PhD with skills in basic immunology techniques involving mouse models. Experience in cell biology, molecular biology, metabolism, and/or disease models would also be appreciated. Successful candidates will be self-motivated and have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
