Associate Director, Clinical and Diagnostic Assay Development

Pfizer Vaccine Research and Development
Pearl River, New York

This is a senior position within the vaccine clinical bioassay development group within Vaccine Research and Development. The incumbent will lead small research teams in the development of cell-based biofunctional assays for the assessment of immune responses to vaccines. Where appropriate, the incumbent is responsible for managing data analysis. Work will be completed following GXP regulatory guidelines as required. The incumbent is accountable to line management and project leadership. The incumbent may also act as developmental assay lead (DAL) for one or more VRD programs. This visible program team role requires the ability to gain alignment across many functional areas. In addition, the incumbent is expected to provide immunological and assay development expertise to the program team.

This position requires application of scientific/technical knowledge to solving scientific and regulatory challenges in the vaccine programs.  Breadth of knowledge of different areas of science, awareness of new technologies, and familiarity with current issues will enable the incumbent to apply novel and innovative approaches to problem solving.

Expertise in cell-based bioassays assessing antibody functionality (OPA & viral neutralization) is desirable. Fundamental understanding of key immunology concepts related to assessment of vaccine-induced responses. Fundamental understanding of statistics and data analysis software. Fundamental understanding of laboratory equipment validation and documentation requirements. Basic understanding of laboratory information management systems. Working knowledge of current Good Laboratory Practices. Experience in managing scientists is preferred but not required. Proficiency with personal computers including word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint and relevant scientific software is required.

Ability to manage teams as well as work with peers across functional groups.
