Postdoctoral Position

The University of Florida
Gainesville, Florida

The Department of Infectious Diseases and Immunology at the University of Florida (UF) invites applications for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Associate to join our team. The PI is Liang Zhou, M.D., Ph.D. This Postdoctoral Associate position is immediately available to study mucosal immunology, focusing on T cells and innate lymphoid cells, at Dr. Liang Zhou’s laboratory at the University of Florida, Gainesville. The Zhou lab utilizes a combination of molecular, cellular immunology, mouse genetics, and animal models of human disease to determine the transcriptional and metabolic regulation of T cells and other related lymphocytes (e.g., innate lymphoid cells-ILCs) in health and disease (e.g., autoimmunity, infection and tumor immunity). The lab has contributed significantly to the field of immunology and microbiome-host interactions (Cell 126:1121; Nature 453:236; Nature Immunology 8:967; Immunity 36:92; Immunity 39:386; Immunity 40:25; Journal of Immunology 193:3934; Immunity 45:185; Cell Rep. 21:2277; Immunity 49:915; Cell Rep. 28:159; PNAS 116:24760; Science Immunology 5:eaaz7277). The candidate is expected to work with animals, including germ-free mice, and also has the opportunity to work with human samples through collaboration with the College of Medicine. For more information, please check the website: https://www.vetmed.ufl.edu/profile/zhou-liang/

The position will be funded by NIH R01 grants and Burroughs Wellcome Fund. The salary is commensurate with experience according to NIH standards. This is a multi-year position with renewal based on job performance. The successful candidate will also have career development opportunities, including promotion to research track faculty/professor at UF.

The city of Gainesville, Florida was founded in 1869 and is home to Florida’s flagship university, the University of Florida. Gainesville is known for world-class education and health care, as well as its reasonable cost of living. U.S. News & World Report recently named the University of Florida the No. 6 public university in the country. The environment is warm, sunny, and perfect for outdoor recreation with plentiful nature footpaths, year-round natural springs, mountain biking trails, annual festivals, craft breweries, and state parks. Gainesville is a hub for arts and culture, innovation, sports, and local cuisine.

Qualifications:

  • Recent Ph.D. in Basic Science/Immunology with strong in vitro and in vivo laboratory skills in immunology
  • Previous experience with animal models, traditional biochemical and molecular assays, and cellular immunology (e.g., FACS) is required
  • Experience in the analysis of genetically altered mice, ChIP-Seq, RNA-Seq, ATAC-seq, and bioinformatics are a plus
  • Highly motivated, productive, and energetic candidates are preferred

For full consideration, qualified candidates should send a Curriculum Vitae, a cover letter outlining career goals and objectives, a list of three professional references to Liang Zhou, M.D., Ph.D. by email to liangzhou497@ufl.edu. After initial evaluation, successful candidates will further be requested to write a one-page future research proposal. Hiring is contingent upon eligibility to work in the US.
