Postdoctoral Fellowship – Cellular & Molecular Biology

Villanova University
Villanova, Pennsylvania

Villanova University’s Department of Biology invites applications for two postdoctoral fellowship positions (50% research and 50% teaching), one in each of the general fields of Cellular & Molecular Biology. Our new colleague will establish a productive research collaboration with an established faculty member and contribute to the vibrant curriculum of the department at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, teaching both at the introductory level (majors and/or non-majors) and in advanced course(s) in an area of expertise. We seek candidates who share our passion for establishing an equitable and inclusive learning and working environment for all students, staff, and faculty. We believe that enriching our diversity is central to our academic mission, and that diversity enhances our ability to engage more broadly with the world and to discover, design and deliver solutions to the challenges that face society. Applicants are invited to contact potential faculty mentors; see below or visit “Departmental Postdocs” on the departmental website for additional information and a list of potential faculty mentors.

To apply online, go to https://jobs.villanova.edu (Faculty- Tenure Track and Visiting). Applications should include a cover letter, complete curriculum vita, statement of research (with ideas for research with a faculty mentor here), statement of teaching philosophy/approach, undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and three letters of recommendation. For more information about the department in general, see https://www1.villanova.edu/villanova/artsci/biology.html.  Review of applications will begin on 22 March 2021 and will continue until positions are filled.  The desired starting date is in August 2021.

Villanova is a national Catholic university sponsored by the Augustinian order. Diversity and inclusion have been and will continue to be an integral component of Villanova University’s mission. The University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer and seeks candidates who understand, respect and can contribute to the Villanova University’s Mission and values.

Additional Information

Postdoctoral positions in the Department of Biology have several advantages and are an excellent way to prepare for academic positions. Our former departmental postdocs have successfully transition into both tenure-track and non-tenure track positions across a wide range of colleges and universities. As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will:

  • Develop and maintain a productive research collaboration with an established faculty member in the department.
  • Develop credentials in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Teach in both lecture and laboratory settings at both the introductory and advanced level to students who are highly motivated and capable.
  • Participate in the academic life of the department by serving as an undergraduate research mentor, serving on departmental committee(s), and attending faculty meetings.
  • Enhance your background in curriculum development by promoting the personal and professional development of undergraduate and graduate students and fostering critical thinking and problem solving, all within a context of a liberal arts education, helping students become future leaders that contribute to their field and society. Villanova offers extensive support to both students and educators.

If you have questions, contact Dr. John Olson, Chair (john.olson@villanova.edu; 610-519-4830). Also refer to the FAQ page associated with job searches.
